Anna Grevelius

Swedish mezzo-soprano Anna Grevelius studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and was later accepted to the Benjamin Britten International Opera School at Royal College of Music, as a Sir Thomas Allen Scholar. She then joined the National Opera Studio for the 2006/07 season.Anna opened the 2013/14 season with the role of Annio in La Clemenza di Tito at La Monnaie in Brussels and continued with subsequent engagements throughout Europe, including Vivaldi’s Gloria with the Swedish Radio Orchestra in her home country of Sweden. She then made her debut as Kitty Oppenheimer in Dr. Atomic with the Opéra National du Rhin. Anna continues to showcase her operatic repertoire in the coming 2015/16 season with performances of Don Giovanni at Opera de Rouen and Versailles Opera house, in which she will play Elvira followed by the role of Zerlina for the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris the following season.

Past operatic roles have included Cherubino (Opera National de Paris and Goteborg Opera), Dorabella Così fan tutte (Classical Opera Company), Prince OrlofskyDie Fledermaus, Lucretia The Rape of Lucretia (both RCM) and Onoria in Handel’s Ezio (RCM, as a part of the London Handel Festival), 2nd Witch Dido and Aeneas (Aix-en-Provence Festival 2006), Cecilio Lucio Silla (Classical Opera Company), Proserpina Orfeo (Drottningholm), Nerone L’Incoronazione di Poppea, Pitti-Sing Mikado and Fyodor Boris Godunov for ENO, Cherubino Le Nozze di Figaro(Garsington) and Rusalka at Grange Park Opera.

In 2009, she appeared at the Festival Aix-en-Provence as 2nd Lady The Magic Flute, conducted by René Jacobs, followed by a recording for Harmonia Mundi. Anna returned to ENO for Siebel Faust as well as Varvara Katya Kabanova in a new production by David Alden, which was also presented at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon. More recently, she sang Juno Platée, conducted by René Jacobs, for De Nederlandse Opera.

In concert, she has performed Bruckner’s Te Deum under Bernard Haitink, Elijah at the 2009 Bach Festival Leipzig with Leon Botstein and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, Rossini’s cantata Giovanna d’Arco at the Brighton Festival, Beethoven's 9th Symphony with the Manchester Camerata and Douglas Boyd, The Magic Flute at the Salzburg Mozartwochen; she has also performed with the English Chamber Orchestra and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra.

A gifted recitalist, Anna has recently appeared at London 's King's Place, in Cambridge , Santiago de Compostela, with Roger Vignoles at the Oxford Lieder and the Brighton Festivals and with Julius Drake at London 's Middle Temple and Wigmore Hall. She is featured on the latest two volumes of Mendelssohn songs for Hyperion Records with pianist Eugene Asti, and on two live recordings of Wolf songs from the Oxford Lieder Festival.

Anna was also the winner of the 2004 Gerald Moore Award’s Singer’s Prize and the 2006 RCM Lies Askonas Competition. She is also the recipient of the ‘Prix Gabriel Dussurget 2009’, awarded by the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence.
