Lance CoburnFor a further disc championing the music of Ludwig Thuille on Champs Hill Records, in-demand accompanist Joseph Middleton has brought together some of the finest young voices in the UK: Sophie Bevan, Jennifer Johnston and Mary Bevan.
Asked by Champs Hill Records founder, David Bowerman, to research the songs of Thuille, Joe faced a huge challenge as the music is not in print and bringing it all together on this disc required many long correspondences with German libraries.
Pianist Joseph Middleton specialises in the art of song accompaniment and chamber music and has been highly acclaimed within this field. The Times recently described him as 'the cream of the new generation' and The Telegraph wrote that he 'represents the cr'me de la cr'me of young British-based musical talent'.
Soprano Sophie Bevan graduated from the Benjamin Britten International Opera School where she was awarded the Queen Mother Rose Bowl Award. She was the recipient of the 2010 Critics' Circle award for Exceptional Young Talent. She was nominated for the 2012 Royal Philharmonic Society Awards and was the recipient of The Times Breakthrough Award at the 2012 South Bank Sky Arts Awards.
Mary Bevan trained at the Royal Academy Opera, and read Anglo-Saxon Norse and Celtic at Trinity College, Cambridge. She received various awards and prizes at the RAM, She is currently a Harewood Artist at the English National Opera.
The young dramatic mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnston is a BBC New Generation Artist, and was named by BBC Music Magazine as a Rising Star, and the Financial Times as the 'Face to Watch in Opera'. A former Barrister, she is a graduate of Cambridge University and the Royal College of Music, and is the recipient of numerous awards including Second Prize in the Montserrat Caballé International Singing Competition, two Susan Chilcott Scholarships and a Wingate Scholarship.
