Tomer Lev

Tomer Lev enjoys an intensive career of unusual diversity as concert pianist, scholar and pedagogue. At the age of 37, he was appointed head of the Israel Academy of Music at Tel Aviv University. Soon after, he was a founding member of the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music a joint institute of Tel Aviv University and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and was appointed as its first director. Tomer Lev has widely toured Western and Eastern Europe, the US, South America and the Far East, performing as recitalist, soloist with orchestras, pianistlecturer, pianist-composer, as well as chamber musician. He has been heard in four continents in cities such as New York, Tokyo, Prague, Beijing, Hamburg, Buenos Aires, Madrid, Montreal, Toronto, Boston, Zurich, Strasbourg, Sao Paulo, Tel Aviv, Shanghai and San Diego; throughout Germany, Spain and England. He also has performed in major international festivals such as Tanglewood, Norfolk, Madrid's San-Isidro, Sofia Music Weeks, Varna Summer, and the Israel Festival, among others. Tomer Lev has also recorded for leading television and radio stations in the US, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Eastern Europe and Israel. Tomer Lev has collaborated with all major Israeli orchestras. His critically acclaimed debut with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Zubin Mehta led to further collaborations with the IPO (including projects with Kurt Masur, Zubin Mehta and others), as well as to performances with the Jerusalem Symphony-Israel Radio Orchestra, the Israel Chamber Orchestra, the Israel Camerata, the Israel Sinfonietta, and the Haifa Symphony Orchestra among others. In 2005, Tomer Lev joined the Israel Piano Trio, one of Israel's leading chamber ensembles.

Mr. Lev is a laureate of several international competitions, including the Maria Callas International Piano competition (Athens), the Awajishima International Chamber Music Competition (Japan) and the Clairmont Awards (Tel Aviv). In 1990 he received a certificate of distinction from the chairman of the Israeli Parliament and in 1998 he was awarded the Gina Bachauer Prize by the America- Israel Cultural Foundation for outstanding achievements in performance. Tomer Lev is a graduate of the Samuel Rubin Israel Academy of Music, Tel Aviv University. He later completed his doctoral studies at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. His teachers have included Arie Vardi, Gilbert Kalish, Victor Derevianko and Naomi Lev.
